Component Security Device
Hitec have been developing RF Cans for the past twelve years. Intial customers included Ionica, GPT and Harris Broadcast, since then, Hitec has been inlvolved in developing and manufacturing a range of RF Cans for the technology sector.
An important aspect of Hitec's design is that their devices are made from 0.6mm mild steel using a CAD/CAM manufacturing process. The alternative method for RF Can manufacture is to use a much thinner material and a chemical etching process. In this respect, Hitec cans have proven to be far more robust and ideal for use as component security devices, as the chemically etch alternatives can easily be distorted and prized open.
As component security devices, Hitec manufacture a completely enclosed box that can be soldered securely onto the PCB. Often this might be to protect components such as Eproms or other such programmable chips that may be holding data critical to the performance and/or security of the system.
In critical circuits that may need tuning by a technician, the entire circuit can be protected by such a metal enclosure but with small holes that will allow very limited access to enable the adjustment of potentiometers or the point measurement of reference voltages. Such metal box components will help protect the circuit from accidental damage during repeated calibration procedures.
Another application for this type of component is to stop external RF effecting critical circuits. Probably the best example would be in automotive applications where the HT circuits can generate considerable RF and the risk of failure due to interference must be minimised.
